![]() ![]() ![]() Many complain about the price (as did I), however the price falls in line with most the nice tuners out there so it's not that bad overall.Ĭlick to expand. You should probably plug that thing in, and set the data-logging to KR to monitor knock (detonation). Unknown - Ability to add new features like Flat Foot Shifting or Launch Control or anything else.Īnyhow, I'm happy with my purchase, glad I can stick it in Valet mode, economy mode, etc at the push of a couple buttons. Pro - Live monitoring of multiple items on the car due to the monitoring on a large screen laptopĬon - Requires laptop to change tune (can't change to Valet mode unless you keep a laptop with you, Netbook would be a nice option though but still big) Pro - Direct programming of ECU means less clutter and possibly more control (yet to be determined)Ĭon - unknown support (as of now) over the two three guys working on it (PROPS TO THEM FOR DOING IT!!!!) Pro - Add on features like Flat Foot Shifting and Launch Control.ĮCU Programming (some of these items are assumptions, I have no ties to the guys doing the ECU Crack/programming, feel free to correct me please!) Pro/con - Live monitoring of car items without laptop, only one item at a time though. Pro - Support from Large well established Company and community :yesnod: Pro - No Laptop needed to change tune so you can have the Access Port in the car at all times :yesnod:Ĭon - Too small to be useful as a gauge cluster like a DashHawk or Bullydog GT Tuner (those things are AWESOME) (All itmes are necessarily pros over the other, but pros or cons non the less) My thoughts about the Access Port vs ECU programming are this. And being it's a COBB product you know LOTS Of people are out there supporting it. Now I'm sure there will be more options with the ECU reprogramming option that seems to be coming, however for a light enthusiast like myself with very standard bolt on mods this is such a easy way to go. Being I have a 7yr 75K warranty I won't be doing anything else unless it's something easy to remove or won't harm the warranty. My Mods are pretty much nothing, Just the Mazdaspeed CAI and Magnaflow CBE. Mods unknown other than the typical potato exhaust. I got up next to a EVO on the way back and had a short few little runs with him. ![]() I'd say this is how the car should have come from the factory, or close to it at least! No difference in slow putting around, no noticeable drivability changes. Got on the fwy and played around a bit and WHOW, what a difference! The car pulls to near Redline like never before, power (mainly torque) is improved everywhere. I launched too hard for my aching clutch and it just slipped to hell. Getting on the FWY the on ramp lights were on, perfect chance for me to test out 1-3rd gear. I then had my girlfriend jump in the car to to pick up some stuff down the freeway and tested the tune out. ![]() I turned off the ignition, turned it back on and checked the Access Port to see what map was loaded. this took all of like 3 seconds and I was a little amazed how fast it was. I did as I think it would be best to return it to stock when I bring the car in for service.Īfter the 30min download I selected to load the 91 octane Stage1 with intake map. After a few ignition key on/offs and unplugs as instructed by the access port it asked if I wanted to download the stock ECU and that it would take around 30min. I made sure all the interior lights were set to off with doors open, rolled down the windows, plugged in the access port and it stated the dongle needed to be updated. I closed the software, unplugged the Access Port and got into my car. I promptly imported them into the Access Port Manager software, plugged in the Access Port and it synced up. I ended up grabbing the valet, Stage 1+ intake 91octane (I'm in CA), and economy maps. Took about 1min or so.Īfter the update was complete I installed the Access Port Manager and the maps I wanted to have loaded. This was easy, (even on a VISTA laptop) just downloaded the firmware updater, ran it, plugged in the unit (had to unplug and replug it once) and boom it started to update. It was not updated to the latest firmware or tunes so I had to do that. I got mine from "PerformanceRacing" here on the board. However, I just wanted to drop my impression for others that may be sitting in the wings for a tuning solution, or a reason to get one. Hey guys, I know a LOT of you already have the Access Port and a lot has been discussed about it. ![]()
